INDIANAPOLIS One of the more entertaining practices in recent Colts camp memory greeted a night crowd on Thursday at Grand Park.

Early offensive fireworks quieted down a bit as the more than 90-minute full-padded practice moved along.

Here are some takeaways from Day 7 of Colts training camp:

-Daniel Jones got back to having his split of the starting reps on Thursday, leading the first unit throughout the opening hour of the night practice. Unofficially, Jones was 22-of-27 (12-of-15 with the starters). Jones completed his passes to Josh Downs (3), AD Mitchell (3), Khalil Herbert (3), Tyler Warren (2), Laquon Treadwell (2), Michael Pittman Jr. (2), Will Mallory (2), Ashton Dulin (2), Jonathan Taylor, Drew Ogletree, Anthony Gould. While Richardson will draw some definite headlines from Thursday, the arrow on Jones is definitely pointing in a better direction. Again, it’s not overly flashy or filled with chunk plays for Jones, but he had another solid night. Ironically, easily the deepest attempt/completion Jones has had this camp came Thursday when an offsides penalty pre-snap sent the veteran quarterback chucking one downfield on a free play. And AD Mitchell ran underneath the big completion. To end practice, Richardson and the starting offense stalled out quickly on a “got to have it, down 7 points with 46 seconds left, no timeouts, from the opposing 30-yard line.” But Jones and the second-team offense took advantage of a defensive pass interference in the end zone, as the veteran QB drilled one into Will Mallory for the TD. For camp, Jones is 58-of-86 (unofficially), with his completions to Anthony Gould (8), Ashton Dulin (7), Josh Downs (6), Khalil Herbert (4), AD Mitchell (4), Will Mallory (4), Michael Pittman Jr. (3), Tyler Warren (3), Alec Pierce (3), Drew Ogletree (3), D.J. Giddens (2), Jonathan Taylor (2), Drew Ogletree (2), Salvon Ahmed.

-Thursday brought the most chunk play Anthony Richardson we’ve seen in the 2025 training camp. Unofficially, Richardson was 14-of-19 (6-of-9 with the starters). The highlights were two huge deep balls to Ashton Dulin for a touchdown and then AD Mitchell down the far sideline. On Thursday, Richardson completed his 14 passes to: Ashton Dulin (5), Josh Downs (4), AD Mitchell (2), Will Mallory, Drew Ogletree, Jelani Woods. As we’ve mentioned throughout these camp updates, you are getting improved underneath accuracy from Richardson, with his normal big play ability showing up on Thursday. Following the night practice, Steichen was in full agreement on noticing a more accurate Richardson when it comes to the underneath game: “I think everything’s cleaner right now,” Steichen said of No. 5. “He’s playing at a high level. He’s making good decisions with the football, taking the completions when needed. So it’s been really good to see.” For camp, Richardson is unofficially 48-of-84. He has completed his 48 balls to Michael Pittman Jr. (10), Ashton Dulin (6), Josh Downs (6), Tyler Warren (5), Anthony Gould (5), Will Mallory (3), D.J, Montgomery (2), Alec Pierce (2), Drew Ogletree (2), AD Mitchell (2), Jonathan Taylor, D.J. Giddens, Tyler Goodson, Mo Alie-Cox, Jelani Woods.

-Strong night of work from AD Mitchell and an important bounce back week from the talented, yet frustrating, second-year wideout. Mitchell made a really nice snag on a deep ball from Anthony Richardson, with undrafted free agent cornerback Johnathan Edwards draped all over him. Mitchell then had an impressive toe tap on what looked to be a throwaway from Daniel Jones. Mitchell’s handful of catches in team periods Thursday was easily the most reliable he’s been in those sessions of camp.

-Hello, Tyler Warren highlight reel. During an 11-on-11 session on Thursday, Warren drew quite the reaction from the crowd and his teammates in hauling a one-handed grab down the seam. On a ball from Daniel Jones, that appeared to be too high with linebacker Jaylon Carlies having tremendous coverage, Warren got his left hand on it to stop the sailing ball. In stabbing at the ball with his left hand, that allowed for Warren to then fully corral it with his right hand as he secured it to the ground. Simply, it was a remarkable catch from the rookie. Tight ends just don’t have the catch radius that Warren brings to the game. Speaking of tight ends, Thursday was a really nice night for the entire group.

-Of the 3 full-padded practices so far in camp, this was easily the most defensive line disruption we’ve seen. Laiatu Latu (probably) had 3 sacks, beating Braden Smith off the edge a few times. Tyquan Lewis was disruptive from the interior. Kwity Paye had a strong, late power rush to help stop an Anthony Richardson-led drive with the starters. New defensive tackle Neville Gallimore even had a nice interior rush against starting right guard Matt Goncalves. In one early 8-play series of starters vs. starters, the defensive line produced 3 hurries and 1 sack. It was a notable night of pass rush, especially with DeForest Buckner (foot) in street clothes.

-Perhaps contributing to some of those deep ball fireworks on Thursday night, the Colts cornerback depth chart was feeling some lack of depth on Thursday. They were down 3 of their top 5 cornerbacks (Charvarius Ward-rest, Jaylon Jones-hamstring, JuJu Brents-hamstring), and signed 2 new corners earlier on Thursday (Tre Herndon-34 career starts, Duke Shelley-11 career starts). Neither Herndon nor Shelly played much last year, but do have history with new Colts DB coach Jerome Henderson. Providing some context to Thursday, the Colts were down their best player at each level of the defense: DT-DeForest Buckner, LB-Zaire Franklin, CB-Charvarius Ward.

-Thursday was an important night for the kicking competition, and Spencer Shrader will sleep better after it. Shrader was 5-of-6 in full-team kicks (good from 30, 35, 40, 41, 50 and off the right upright from 44). Maddux Trujillo was 3-of-6 (good from 30, 41, 44, wide left from 35, wide right from 40 and then wide right from 50. That makes Shrader 14-of-17 in camp and Trujillo 6-of-11.

-Guys that stood out at Thursday’s practice: TE-Tyler Warren, WR-Ashton Dulin, TE-Will Mallory, WR-AD Mitchell, DE-Laiatu Latu, DL-Tyquan Lewis, WR-Josh Downs.

-Here is how the starting offense looked on Thursday: QB-Daniel Jones, RB-Jonathan Taylor, WR-Michael Pittman Jr., WR-AD Mitchell, WR-Josh Downs, TE-Tyler Warren, LT-Bernhard Raimann, LG-Quenton Nelson, C-Tanor Bortolini, RG-Matt Goncalves, RT-Braden Smith

-Here is how the starting defense looked on Thursday: DE-Laiatu Latu, DT-DeForest Buckner, DT-Grover Stewart, DE-Samson Ebukam, LB-Joe Bachie, LB-Jaylon Carlies, CB-Kenny Moore II, CB-Samuel Womack III, CB-Justin Walley, S-Cam Bynum, S-Nick Cross.

Injury Report: The following players did not appear to be participating on Thursday or got hurt during practice: LB-Zaire Franklin (ankle), CB-JuJu Brents (hamstring), CB-Jaylon Jones (hamstring), RB-Salvon Ahmed (back), DT-DeForest Buckner (foot), CB-Chavarius Ward (rest). After practice, Shane Steichen said he thought the hamstring injury for Jones was “a little more severe” than the one for Brents.
