Google is addressing a longtime sore point of its Nest cameras with recent updates to the Google Home app which, apparently, will reduce how often users run into “no video available” errors.
If you’ve used a Nest Cam in the Google Home app for any length of time, you’ve run into “no video available” errors at one time or another. We’ve called out the issue before, where the Home app would regularly show that “this video isn’t available yet” when trying to view a recording or open a notification. It’s gotten better with time, but it still happens from time to time.
With a recent update to Google Home, v3.36, Google says that it has made further improvements in this regard. The company says that Nest owners should see “no video available” errors less frequently. The company also says that “Camera Unavailable” errors following turning on a turned-off camera will also be less common.
- Reduced “no video available” errors: Camera users will see fewer cases where a recent video is not yet available for streaming.
- Camera stream reliability: Fixed an issue where turning a camera off and on during a live stream would result in a “Camera Unavailable” error, ensuring the stream recovers properly.
These are welcome improvements for Nest owners, though we certainly hope to see Google continuing to address problems, especially as Nest Aware is rising in price.
