Sony to Promote Peter Kang As Josh Greenstein Eyes Exit for Paramount

EXCLUSIVE: In what has been buzzed about around town for quite some time, Sony‘s Columbia Pictures EVP Production Peter Kang is expected to get a title bump to President of Production as Sony Motion Picture Group co-President Josh Greenstein is negotiating to join Paramount Skydance in a C-suite role, sources tell us.

Kang, we hear, will report into Sanford Panitch, co-President of Sony Motion Picture Group.

Kang joined Sony in March 2019 from Lionsgate, where he was co-president of production. He had been at Lionsgate for three years during which time he oversaw such pics as Paul Feig’s A Simple Favor. Before Lionsgate he spent three years as EVP Production at Paramount, where he worked on Top Gun: Maverick, which became Tom Cruise’s and Paramount’s highest-grossing movie of all time earning close to $1.5 billion.

Prior to that, Kang spent 17 years at 20th Century Fox, where he oversaw the relaunch of the Planet of the Apes franchise under Matt Reeves. He also brought in such book-based properties as Gone Girl and The Maze Runner.

Some of Sony’s notable upcoming titles include Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing (release date: August 29), the Margot Robbie- and Colin Farrell-starring A Big Bold Beautiful Journey (September 19), the Jack Black comedic reboot of Anaconda (December 25), Nia DaCosta’s sequel for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (January 16, 2026), Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day which will go into production next month (July 31, 2026), Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil (September 18, 2026) and Jumanji 3 (December 11, 2026). Sony has had one of the higher-grossing horror films this year with Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later, which earned $150 million worldwide.
