Rob Manfred, Bryce Harper have heated blowup in clubhouse

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred and Philadelphia star Bryce Harper had a verbal altercation last week in the Phillies clubhouse during part of the commissioner’s annual tour of teams, multiple sources told The Post.

Last Monday, Manfred was at Citizens Bank Park and was about five minutes into his opening remarks in the Phillies clubhouse when Harper interjected strongly, and suggested that if Manfred was there to talk about a salary cap, that the commissioner should leave, sources said. People familiar with the exchange said Harper used a profanity when confronting the commissioner.

Manfred informed the Phillies first baseman he was the commissioner and would not leave. The two had a brief exchange in which Harper asked what Manfred had ever done to benefit the players, sources said. The meeting then continued for about an hour with both Harper and Manfred remaining in attendance, sources said.

The Commissioners Office offered no comment on this matter along with Harper’s agent, Scott Boras, and the Players Association.
