A rock band is postponing an Upstate New York concert and canceling several other tour dates as they mourn a “profound loss.”
Pantera announced Friday that it is changing its schedule to grieve the death of Ozzy Osbourne. The legendary Black Sabbath singer, who influenced metal bands like Pantera, died Tuesday at age 76.
“Ozzy wasn’t just a legend who shaped the very foundation of heavy metal and inspired Pantera from the beginning — he was family. A mentor, a brother, and a constant presence in our lives both on and off the stage. The bond we shared with him ran far deeper than music,” Pantera said in a statement.
Pantera’s current touring guitarist Zakk Wylde was part of Osbourne’s solo band from 1987 to 1995 and reunited with Osbourne multiple times. Pantera also performed at Osbourne’s Ozzfest, covered several Black Sabbath songs, toured with Heaven & Hell (which featured Cortland native Ronnie James Dio with Black Sabbath members) and performed at Osbourne’s final concert with Black Sabbath earlier this month.
“In light of this profound loss, we need time and space to grieve — to be with our families, our crew, and each other as we process and honor the life of someone who meant so much to us,” Pantera said.
The groove metal group was scheduled to perform Monday, July 28, at the Broadview Stage at SPAC (Saratoga Performing Arts Center) in Saratoga Springs. The show has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Pantera also rescheduled a July 31 performance in Holmdel, New Jersey, for Monday, Sept. 8, “out of respect and to allow members of our team the time to mourn.”
Tickets purchased for the original dates will be honored for the new dates. Additional tickets for SPAC are still available via Ticketmaster, StubHub, and Vivid Seats.
But due to those schedule changes, Pantera is also canceling three tour dates on July 29 in Gilford, New Hampshire; Sept. 8 in Birmingham, Alabama; and Sept. 10 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Tickets purchased through Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded for the canceled shows; fans who purchased tickets through a third-party reseller should contact their point of purchase.

“We appreciate your understanding during this difficult time,” Pantera said.
Pantera, which rocked a record-breaking crowd with Metallica at Syracuse’s JMA Wireless Dome earlier this year, is a Texas-based rock band known for playing heavy metal subgenres like thrash metal, groove metal and (in their early 1980s days) glam metal. The Grammy-nominated group is best known for ‘90s hits like “Cowboys From Hell,” “Planet Caravan” and “Walk.”
Pantera has dealt with loss multiple times in its career. Founding guitarist Dimebag Darrell died in 2004 and his brother, co-founding drummer Vinnie Paul, died in 2018. The current lineup includes longtime singer Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown with Wylde and drummer Charlie Benante.
Osbourne, also known as a reality TV star for “The Osbournes,” was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, both with Black Sabbath and as a solo artist. He helped pioneer the heavy metal genre thanks to hits like “Iron Man,” “Paranoid,” and “Crazy Train”; Wylde performed on Ozzy classics like “Mama I’m Coming Home” and “No More Tears.”
“Thank you for blessing the world with your kindness and greatness Oz,” Wylde wrote on Instagram. “You brought light into so many lives and made the world a better place – you lived with the heart of a lion – I thank the good lord every day for blessing my life with you in it – I love you Oz.”
