Days after news circulated that “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” had been canceled, “The View” is also under fire.
The brouhaha stems from a comment made by Joy Behar, co-host of the afternoon talk show, who said that President Donald Trump is “jealous” of former president Barack Obama.
“The thing about [Trump] is he’s so jealous of Obama, because Obama is everything that he is not: trim, smart, handsome, happily married . . . and Trump cannot stand it,” said Behar. “It’s driving him crazy.”
Behar made the remark during a conversation about Trump accusing Obama of treason; during a recent press conference, the president said “there is irrefutable proof that Obama was seditious” and accused him of trying to “lead a coup.”
In response, Trump administration spokesperson Taylor Roger shared a response with the Hollywood Reporter, seeming to threaten that the program could be canceled.
“Joy Behar is an irrelevant loser suffering from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome,” Roger said the statement to the Hollywood Reporter. “It’s no surprise that ‘The View’s ratings hit an all-time low last year. She should self-reflect on her own jealousy of President Trump’s historic popularity before her show is the next to be pulled off air.”
The comment is particularly serious in the context of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” being canceled. Paramount axed Colbert’s late night TV program not long after establishing a $16 million dollar settlement with Trump regarding a “60 Minutes” interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris. Like “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” “60 Minutes” is part of CBS, whose parent company is Paramount.
Trump celebrated the development by posting to Truth Social.
“I absolutely love that Colbert’ got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings,” he wrote. “I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.”
