A rabid skunk was spotted in a Dauphin County community Friday, according to city officials.
Hummelstown officials posted on Facebook Friday morning that a skunk showing signs of rabies was seen in the area of Runyon Road and West High Street.
Signs of rabies in skunks include roaming during the day (skunks are typically nocturnal), aggressive behavior, excessive salivation and fearlessness around humans, according to the Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Center.
If you see a skunk showing signs of rabies, do not approach it or attempt to handle it, officials advise.
Officials ask residents to keep their pets indoors or supervised at all times and to report unusual animal behavior to the Pennsylvania Game Commission at 1-833-742-9453.
If your pet came into contact with a skunk in the area, officials recommend seeking veterinary care.
