Nintendo officially confirms Mario and Peach's relationship status for first time in 40 years

Plumber? I barely know her! Haha no seriously, she won’t’a return’a my calls

Nintendo just finally confirmed Mario and Princess Peach’s relationship status, and the dudebros in the manosphere are gonna have a field day with this one.

I think it’s fair to say that Mario clearly has some feelings for Princess Peach. I mean, he’s basically dedicated his entire life to saving her from Bowser, so either he’s deeply in love with Peach or he’s unemployed.

Well, maybe the latter reason could have something to do with Peach’s feelings (or lack thereof) towards him, because Nintendo just confirmed that the pair aren’t quite as close as we may have assumed.

As spotted by Dexerto’s Brad Norton (via a post from @KirPinkFury on Twitter), Nintendo decided to wake up and choose violence last night, by confirming in a post on the Nintendo Today app that Mario and Peach are just “good friends”.

Here’s the full quote: “Princess Peach and Mario are good friends and help each other out whenever they can.”

Naturally, the internet isn’t too happy about this.

It seemingly doesn’t matter if you’re a basement-dwelling blue checkmarked Twitter gremlin or Bluesky’s final boss, everyone online seems to be perplexed at Nintendo’s refusal to pair the two together.

Many are even comparing it to Link and Zelda’s relationship, who are seemingly not a couple, even though they share the same house in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Maybe this is just a case of Nintendo wanting to keep things a bit more exciting, as it has been proven several times in the past that the “chase”, for lack of a better word, of fictional romantic pairings is a lot more interesting to audiences than, y’know, actually seeing them together.

Either way, Mario has gotta move on at this point. She ain’t in another castle, bro, she’s just screening your calls.
