Gov. Gavin Newsom said he would meet Friday with Texas lawmakers “to push back on” a redistricting plan proposed by Republicans in a purported effort to help the GOP keep control of the House.
In a social media post, Newsom described the proposal as a “plot to tilt the 2026 election.”
The governor said he would be joined by Texas Reps. Rafael Anchía, Chris Turner, Ana-María Rodríguez Ramos, Ramon Romero, Barbara Gervin-Hawkins, Nicole Collier and members of California’s congressional delegation.
On his podcast, Newsom has said that California should consider redrawing its own congressional map to offset possible redistricting in Texas.
In an interview last week, Newsom said a “legal gray zone” would allow California’s Legislature to redraw the state’s congressional map. That map is currently designed by an independent commision.
