4 winners and losers from Patriots’ training camp practice on Friday

The New England Patriots held their third practice of training camp on Friday. The session itself was a light one even compared to the previous two days in shorts and helmets: head coach Mike Vrabel conducted a walkthrough, with his players in practice jerseys, shorts and bucket hats or caps.

You can recap the action (or lack thereof) here. Nonetheless, there are a few players who still caught our eye during the 75-minute event.

Standout of the day

There were no competitive team periods on Friday, so we will refrain from picking anybody as today’s standout. There were some noteworthy developments from a depth chart perspective — more on those in a second — but nothing that would indicate any major development or performance worthy of being recognized here.

Other performances of note

OT Demontrey Jacobs: Just like the last two days, Jacobs continued rotating in and out of the starting lineup on Friday. There was one notable change, though: not only did he replace starting right tackle Morgan Moses, as he had on Wednesday and Thursday, he also received his first snaps of the summer filling in for left tackle Will Campbell. He is not realistically challenging either starter, but the team seemingly is giving Jacobs every opportunity to earn the third/swing tackle role.

OL Jared Wilson: Also seeing reps in a new spot on Friday was third-round rookie Jared Wilson. Besides continuing to fill in for Cole Strange at left guard and Garrett Bradbury at center, he also was used as the top-level right guard for the first time all camp. His chances of earning a regular starting job at that particular position are virtually zero — Mike Onwenu is not going anywhere — but it is clear New England views Wilson as its top interior backup at the moment and a player potentially capable of playing snaps at all three spots.

DT Christian Barmore and CB Carlton Davis: Yes, it was a walkthrough. Yes, there was virtually no intensity involved. But still, it was good to see two of the Patriots’ starters back in full action on Barmore lined up in his regular starting spot alongside Milton Williams, Keion White and Harold Landry after being limited on Thursday. Davis, meanwhile, was a no-show the previous practice for load management reasons but slid right back into the No. 2 cornerback spot opposite Christian Gonzalez.

The Patriots will return to the practice fields behind Gillette Stadium on Friday for a regular session again set to kick off at 10:15 a.m. ET session. Gates for the free session will open an hour earlier.
