YouTube Music rolling out 2025 Recap with ‘Ask about your year’

It’s not December yet, but YouTube Music is beginning to roll out its 2025 Recap with a pretty interesting “Ask about your listening” experience made possible by AI.

This late November release for the YouTube Music Recap matches previous years, and continues to be on the early side. It consistently skips the month of December.

Anyways, if you’re not prompted, tap your profile avatar in the top-right corner and go to “Your Recap” on Android or iOS. As always, it starts with a story when you tap “Get your Recap,” but you can always jump to a specific section using the carousel.

The 2025 Recap starts with how long you listened for and the “longest streak.” This is followed by your most listened to song and the top five. Make sure to save your playlist, with September-November 2025 also available.

“Your musical bestie” is your top artist, with a calendar view that shows what days you listened to them on. There’s an interesting “you listened to artist from over XX different places”/countries as part of your 2025 Musical Passport.

Other sections include top albums, podcasts, genre, and a final graphic that brings everything together.

What’s new this year is how YouTube is leveraging the “Ask Music” feature to dive into your history. Suggested questions and prompts include:

  • How did my listening change over the year?
  • Was my music more chill or hype?
  • Describe my listening as a weather report
  • Did I explore or listen-on-repeat more?
  • What were my top electronic dance music songs?
  • What animal matches my music taste?

This feature uses your YouTube history to generate recommendations and provide insights into your unique tastes.

You can ask any question through the chatbot UI, with each answer displayed in a shareable graphic.
