Sophie Trudeau is publicly addressing estranged husband Justin Trudeau‘s new romance with Katy Perry for the first time.
The 50-year-old motivational speaker – who separated from the 53-year-old former Canadian Prime Minister in 2023 – appeared on Arlene Dickinson‘s podcast Arlene Is Alone where she shared how she handles Justin‘s life in the public eye amid his relationship with the 41-year-old “Dark Horse” singer.

While Arlene didn’t mention Katy by name, she pointed to “the publicness of what Justin is doing” after joking about his and Sophie’s post-breakup dating lives.
Sophie then said that she is focused on her own growth.
“I’m very aware that a lot of public stuff out there can be triggers,” Sophie said, noting, “The woman I become through this is my decision.”
Sophie – who shares kids Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11, with Justin – went on to share some insight into their co-parenting dynamics, noting that they’re both on the same page about prioritizing their kids.
“I’m definitely not a single mom,” Sophie emphasized. “I have a partnership with a father who has such deep love and availability to his children.”
“We have separate lives, but we have one family life,” she continued. “You need a common, conscious decision of, ‘Our family is our greatest creation and we’re going to feed it together, no matter if we’re on different life paths.’”
“It’s not always easy to live, but it’s very adult,” Sophie added.
