Elon Musk’s new simpler Starship aims to land US astronauts on moon

Under growing pressure from NASA, SpaceX has revealed a simplified design for its lunar lander. The new plan aims to return American astronauts to the Moon more quickly, following delays that forced NASA to reopen the competition for lunar lander contracts.

The redesign is part of NASA’s Artemis program, which aims to establish a permanent U.S. human presence on the Moon.

The Artemis mission remains one of NASA’s most ambitious efforts. Yet, it continues to face cost overruns and delays.

One major challenge has been the lunar lander, which is essential to placing astronauts on the Moon’s surface. Without it, the entire effort risks being grounded.
