We read the predictions, we swallowed our pride, we argued amongst one another. The Seattle Seahawks spent the majority of the 2025 NFL off-season making drastic changes at QB1 and WR1. Both moves elicited a mixed reaction from pundits and fans alike. Although, anecdotally I’ll say that most Seahawks-centric journalists were saying that we’d be alright (*Kendrick voice).
Professionals in the known NFL universe had some specific assessments of the 2025 version of Seattle’s squad, namely stating that after moving on from Geno Smith, DK Metcalf, and Tyler Lockett, the team had spent the off-season downgrading. During Sunday night’s resounding (and somewhat somber) victory over the Washington, DC Commanders, one prominent ESPN analyst in particular issued an apology for his poor pre-season assessment of our beloved Seattle Seahawks.

The Seattle Seahawks. They downgraded at quarterback and also shipped impactful receiver DK Metcalf. If Sam Darnold retains his level of play from Minnesota to Seattle, the dropoff from Geno Smith to him won’t be too damaging — but it’s likely that Darnold won’t match his 2024 output. The Seahawks have also not addressed their offensive line, electing to spend big money on aging edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence, who is coming off a foot injury. I don’t see the vision.
It appears he sees the vision now after saying the team took a step backward.
Furthermore, earlier this summer, Mr. Solak appeared on Jacson Bevens’ indelible Cigar Thoughts podcast and stated rather casually that the 2025 season for the Seattle Seahawks would be a “developmental” one for many of the young players. His assessment of our youthful group was greatly misdiagnosed, considering how many of them have contributed directly in essentially every game. Mr. Solak had us down for less than 10 victories. We are at six with nine games to go. I had them at 12.
