Lady Vol head coach Kim Caldwell has dismissed Ruby Whitehorn

Tennessee Lady Vol coach Kim Caldwell has dismissed senior guard Ruby Whitehorn from the team following her second run in with the law this fall.

“It is my responsibility to protect the high standards of this historic program,” Caldwell said in a statement. “In light of recent events, Ruby has been unable to reflect those standards, and I have made the difficult decision to dismiss her from our team. I love Ruby and will always be rooting for her, but my priority is to uphold the respected reputation of the Lady Vols.”

Following the Lady Vols 100 point win over Columbus State where Whitehorn scored 18 points, the senior transfer was arrested at 4:31 am after driving recklessly and was cited for possession.

It was Whitehorn’s second arrest since August. Whitehorn was charged with aggravated burglary and domestic assault following an altercation outside of a woman’s residence. After the arrest, Whitehorn was suspended from the program. She pleaded guilty in September to two misdemeanors in exchange for judicial diversion and was reinstated to the team.

Whitehorn averaged 11.6 points a game last season in 23 minutes of action. She was the team’s third leading rebounder. She was one of five players who played over 700 minutes last season. She started 28 games.

The 8th ranked Lady Vols open the regular season Tuesday night against 9th ranked NC State in Greensboro, NC.
