Fresh off his first Emmy nomination for producing The Gorge, Miles Teller returned to Studio 8H to host Saturday Night Live for the second time. He previously hosted in 2022 with musical guest Kendrick Lamar, and appeared on the 50th anniversary special for a Bronx Beat sit-down with Betty (Amy Poehler) and Jodi (Maya Rudolph), plus Linda Richman (Mike Myers) from Coffee Talk. Teller — who will next be seen in the film Eternity — hosted alongside musical guest Brandi Carlile.
Teller is the fourth host of SNL‘s 51st season, following Bad Bunny (with musical guest Doja Cat) on Oct. 4, Amy Poehler (with musical guest Role Model) on Oct. 11, and Sabrina Carpenter (who was also the musical guest) on Oct. 18. The long-running sketch comedy series recently added 11 Emmy Awards to its shelf in September, bringing its overall tally to 112.
Season 51’s main cast includes Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Marcello Hernández, James Austin Johnson, Colin Jost, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson, and Bowen Yang, as well as featured players Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Ben Marshall, Ashley Padilla, Kam Patterson, Veronika Slowikowska, and Jane Wickline.

Cold Open
SNL took a break from opening with national politics to focus on some local politics that have gotten national attention: specifically, the New York City mayoral race. Disgraced former New York governor Andrew Cuomo (Teller) faced off against insurgent Democratic party nominee Zohran Mamdani (Ramy Youssef) and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa (Shane Gillis) in the third and final (and fictional) debate. But don’t worry, President Donald Trump (Johnson) showed up to make sure voters knew that every race for political office is really about him — even the most localized ones.
Opening Monologue
Teller barely had enough time to shed his Andrew Cuomo costume before taking the stage for his monologue. He took pride in hosting the night after Halloween, since he and his sisters used to dress up as SNL characters when they were growing up. (He even brought along photographic evidence from one year when they dressed as “Roxbury Guys” Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan.) Having moved around a lot as a child, Teller has always had multiple places to call home, including the SNL stage. That sentiment was especially poignant this time, as he was one of many people to lose their house in the Palisades fire earlier this year. Considering what happened to the last place he called home, Teller let everyone know where the fire exits were located before the show started.
White House Makeover
SNL viewers were seeing double Teller in the pre-recorded Property Brothers send-up. Twin contractors Jonathan Scott and Drew Scott (Teller) face their biggest challenge yet: building the new White House ballroom for President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump (Fineman). That’s easier said than done, since Trump has deported most of the nation’s construction workers. He even called ICE on the Canadian brothers when they dared ask about payment for their work. With or without the Property Brothers, Trump’s got a lot of work to do on his “forever home,” which has to be ready in time for his third term.
Hungover Halloween Game Show
If you woke up the morning of November 1 without any knowledge of what you did last night, don’t worry: you weren’t the only one. On the game show What Did I Do Last Night?, host Thompson asked a trio of still-costumed Halloween partiers (Teller, Slowikowska, Marshall) if they could recall what they did last night. Whether they were hungover or perhaps still drunk, the contestants wracked their brains for memories to win prizes like a chair to sit down in and a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich to ease their stomachs.
Hockey PSA
The National Hockey League brought on a trio of players to shoot a commercial championing the various charity work they engages in. Although members of the New York Rangers (Brennan) and Los Angeles Kings (Marshall) had easy-enough copy to read from, the player from the Nashville Predators (Teller) found some unfortunate turn of phrases in his cue cards. Let’s just say it didn’t sound quite right for him to say he volunteered at a children’s hospital.
Newsroom
If you ever wanted a behind-the-scenes look at a nightly news broadcast, you got your wish with the newly-renovated set for Newspoint, your home for 24/7 news. As host Daphne Dodd (Fineman) and economist P.L. Henry (Thompson) tried to provide updates on the latest jobs reports, the crew were practically tripping over themselves getting used to the new layout, giving viewers a first-hand glimpse at all the hard work that goes into putting the nightly news together.
Missing Wives Docuseries
The Netflix true crime craze got a send-up with Missing Wives, in which husbands desperately search for their missing spouses who went on a family trip, took a shower, or went grocery shopping… without a trace!
Weekend Update
Newly pardoned by President Trump, former US Congressman and convicted felon George Santos (Yang) stopped by the Weekend Update desk to give his recipe for prison toilet rice pudding. Anyone who thought Santos would gain a new relationship to the truth during his time behind bars was sadly mistaken, as he spun just as many yarns as usual. Later, two people who had just hooked up (Dismukes and Padilla) came to comment on the ongoing government shutdown, offering advice on how Democrats and Republicans should get together.
Murder Press Briefing
As police detectives Teller and Johnson tried to give updates to the press about the latest victim of a serial killer that’s been terrorizing the city, one reporter (Dismukes) wanted feedback on his new book, Gar-Girl. It’s like Gone Girl, but with gargoyles. And even the killer had questions.
