After a whopping 46 seasons, the MTV comedy clip show “Ridiculousness” has been canceled.
“Ridiculousness” will continue into 2026 with previously shot episodes, but no new episodes will be filmed. Season 46, which kicked off on Oct. 12, will be the show’s last installment.
According to a Variety report, the cancelation comes as MTV aims to feature “a more curated slate of content” that “embraces its experimental DNA” and represents “different creative voices” and a “refreshed programming.”
There are more than 1,700 episodes of “Ridiculousness,” which premiered in August 2011. It’s not uncommon for reruns of the clip show to take up hours of MTV’s schedule on any given day. On Saturday, Nov. 1, for example, back to back episodes of “Ridiculousness” are slated to air from 3 a.m. ET to 1 p.m. ET.
It’s unclear whether MTV’s decision to lean into “different creative voices” will mean fewer reruns of “Ridiculousness.” Some viewers were shocked to learn that the show produced new episodes for as long as it did.
“Hold up, it was still goin til now!?!?! I thought that ended ages ago,” one person commented on an Instagram post announcing the cancelation.
“Honestly thought those were always reruns they were playing over and over again,” another viewer wrote.
A third person mourned the news, calling “Ridiculousness” their “hotel comfort show that I always had on in the background.”

According to Bloomberg, MTV was paying the show’s host, Rob Dyrdek, around $32.5 million a year. On “Ridiculousness,” Dyrdek and his cohosts, Sterling “Steelo” Brim and Lauren “Lolo” Wood, provide commentary on viral internet clips.
In a November 2020 MediaPost article about the “sad state of basic cable,” writer Adam Buckman cited MTV’s commitment to airing reruns of “Ridiculousness” as an example of “name-brand cable channels that seem to have abandoned the idea of developing and producing original, attractive content worth paying for.”
Despite its formulaic nature, or perhaps because of it, “Ridiculousness” spawned three spinoffs: “Deliciousness” (2020-2022), “Adorableness” (2021), and “Messyness” (2021-2022).
“Ridiculousness” is available to stream on Apple TV+.
