United Boeing 787 is declaring an emergency and diverting to Seattle after 5 hours over Pacific

A flight from Los Angeles to Tokyo has declared an emergency and is diverting to Seattle.

The United Airlines flight UA32 departed Los Angelas LAX terminal 6 (gate 68B) on time today at 10:45 PDT for a 10-hour flight to Tokyo Narita Airport.

The Boeing 787-9 (registration N29978) was cruising at 36,000 feet when the flight turned around over Pacific Ocean.

More than 5 hours into the flight, the crew declared an emergency (squawk 7700) to require priority landing in Seattle.
