Capcom has today published its financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2025, and they make for alarming reading for the publisher’s biggest release of the year, Monster Hunter Wilds.
While it had an excellent launch, selling more than 10 million units and setting new records for Capcom, its sales since then have plummeted. This has culminated in the sales report published today, where Monster Hunter Wilds has been outsold by virtually every other major Capcom release of the past six years.
During the first half of Capcom’s fiscal year, Monster Hunter Wilds sold 637,000 copies. 477,000 units were bought during Q1, leaving just 160,000 purchased during Q2. It’s the latter sales stat, when compared to other Capcom releases, that raises eyebrows.
During the same time period, Monster Hunter Rise, a more than four-year-old entry in the series, managed to sell 254,000 copies. Devil May Cry 5, still riding high from the success of the Netflix TV show, more than doubled Monster Hunter Wilds’ sales at 352,000. In fact, Monster Hunter Wilds could only equal the sales of the Devil May Cry HD Collection during the second quarter.
Using the sales data taken from the Platinum Titles page on the Capcom website, here’s how the company’s games sold during the Q2 period:
- Resident Evil Village — 643,000 sales
- Resident Evil 4 — 554,000 sales
- Street Fighter 6 — 547,000 sales
- Resident Evil 7: Biohazard — 512,000 sales
- Resident Evil 2 — 450,000 sales
- Resident Evil 3 — 397,000 sales
- Devil May Cry 5 — 352,000 sales
- Monster Hunter Rise — 254,000 sales
- Devil May Cry HD Collection — 160,000 sales
- Monster Hunter Wilds — 160,000 sales
