Carson Beck transferred from Georgia to Miami this offseason, but it was apparently not because the Bulldogs wanted him to leave.
“Yeah, absolutely, those conversations were had,” he told reporters Tuesday when asked if Georgia head coach Kirby Smart wanted him to return in 2025.
That the Bulldogs would have wanted him back comes as no surprise. After all, he completed 72.4 percent of his passes for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2023 and then followed that up by completing 64.7 percent of his passes for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions last year.
While the interceptions were a concern, the Bulldogs still won the SEC and made the College Football Playoff last season.
Unfortunately for the SEC school, Beck suffered an elbow injury in the SEC Championship Game against Texas and was sidelined for the team’s CFP loss to Notre Dame. Had he remained healthy, the season may have ended in better fashion for the powerhouse program.
Instead, Georgia managed just 10 points in a loss to the Fighting Irish with Gunner Stockton under center.
Stockton is the presumed starter for the Bulldogs in 2025 and will look to live up to his potential as a 4-star recruit in the 2022 class, per 247Sports’ composite rankings. As for Beck, he has massive shoes to fill with the Hurricanes after Cam Ward won the ACC Player of the Year and was the No. 1 overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft.
Miami is also looking to reach the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history after winning 10 games and reaching the Pop-Tarts Bowl last season.
All the pressure will be on Beck to help it do just that, although he is accustomed to playing under such expectations from his time leading a Georgia program that is typically in the middle of the national title race.
