UFC champ Tom Aspinall reacts to Alex Pereira’s viral weight gain, potential heavyweight matchup

Alex Pereira continues to put on weight, and now has fans thinking that a potential heavyweight move could be in the cards — which would certainly capture the interest of UFC heavyweight titleholder Tom Aspinall.

As of now, Aspinall or Pereira, the former UFC light heavyweight and middleweight champion, are currently awaiting their next fight announcements. Speaking with former heavyweight fighter Stefan Struve, Aspinall was asked about Pereira’s viral videos where he continues to put on weight. In his recent weigh-in on Instagram, “Poatan” was 110.25 kgs, which equates to 243.05 pounds.

“As far as he’s concerned, I think that… if I was him, I’d want to get a rematch and get the light heavyweight belt back,” Aspinall told UFC op EuroSport. “But I’m not him, so I don’t know. I don’t know.

“But I think the weight thing, the guy and his team know what they’re doing on social media. They know how to make headlines, which is good. I think, as far as I’m aware, that’s quite normal for him and other big light heavyweights to get up to 240, 250. So I don’t know. Maybe he’s just teasing it, maybe he’ll be in. I have no idea.”

In the conversation with Struve, Aspinall did say he had a fight locked in, but wouldn’t reveal who it is. Pereira recently told MMA Fighting that he’s focused on a rematch against Magomed Ankalaev.

Whether it’s Pereira, or Ciryl Gane, or Derrick Lewis, Aspinall is ready for anybody to share the octagon with.

“Any fight is interesting to me,” Aspinall said. “I don’t need much to be enticed into a fight with somebody. I’m the easiest guy. Just tell me who I’m fighting, and I’m in.
