Gerry Turner Says Theresa Nist ‘Should Be Worried’ as He Reveals Cause of Divorce in His Book

Former Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner says ex-wife Theresa Nist “should be worried” ahead of his upcoming memoir.

The lead of The Golden Bachelor’s first season will reveal new reasons for his divorce from Nist, whom he met on the show in 2023. The couple got engaged in a November season finale and quickly married in a televised wedding two months later. However, after just three months of marriage, Nist and Turner, 74, announced they would be divorcing.

Ahead of the release of his new memoir, Golden Years, which is available for pre-order now, Turner told Us Weekly that he want to put perceptions of what happened with Nist, 72, “on the right track.”

“The question was constantly, ‘Why are they getting divorced so quickly?’ And I was, I believe, made out to be a villain,” he added.

Turner admitted that he’s not worried about Nist reading his book but said, “I think she should be worried.” He told Us Weekly that, since watching the show back, he had to “change” his mind about whether Nist was on the show for the right reasons.

One of the issues in their marriage that Turner mentioned to Us Weekly, was conflicting views about Nist’s career. Turner claims Nist told him she would be willing to quit her job after they married. “What I heard was, ‘There is a woman who’s going to be willing to travel, to have some adventure to do, some things that I consider and that we should consider fun,’” he said. “And then after the show, she always went back to, ‘Well, I really want to keep working.’ And that just pretty much makes it an impossible situation.”

Turner also criticized Nist for putting out a statement on her own after they agreed to not make independent statements following their divorce announcement, accusing her of making him look like the villain.

For his part in the divorce, Turner admits, “I was a bit naive; I was a bad listener. I didn’t probe well enough, and that’s both for my sake and for Theresa’s. Had I been better at some of those areas, maybe there would have been a different end.”
