The Cubs’ season is over, and Kyle Tucker appears headed to the open market.
The pending free agent outfielder said following Chicago’s NLDS loss Saturday to the Brewers that he is unsure where he will be playing in 2025 and beyond.
“We’ll see what happens,” the four-time All-Star said following Game 5. “I don’t know what the future is going to hold.

“If it’s not [with the Cubs], it was an honor playing with all these guys and I wish everyone the best of luck, whether it’s playing next year or not with them. It’s a really fun group to be a part of.”
The Yankees figure to be among the teams interested in Tucker, with two of their three starting outfielders — Cody Bellinger and Trent Grisham — also headed for free agency.
The 28-year-old Tucker was acquired from the Astros in a trade last December, and he agreed to a one-year deal worth $16.5 million to avoid arbitration.

Tucker finished his first season in Chicago with a slash line of .266/.377/.464 with 22 home runs, 73 RBIs and 25 stolen bases in 136 games. He struggled offensively after missing time with a fractured right hand and a calf strain, however, and he drove in just one run in eight postseason games.
When asked Saturday if the Cubs have any advantage to re-sign him, Tucker added, “I don’t really know right now. I was more worried about the game tonight and everything. I’ll kind of get through this today and worry about that a little later. I think this team is really, really talented. A great group of guys. And I can definitely see this team having a lot of success in the future.”
