Penn State’s Drew Allar leaves game with apparent lower leg injury in Northwestern loss

STATE COLLEGE – You can add a huge injury to Penn State’s second shocking upset loss in a row.

Penn State quarterback Drew Allar left the game with an apparent left leg injury late in Northwestern’s 22-21 Big Ten victory on Saturday at Beaver Stadium.

Allar was injured on a third-down scramble with a little over three minutes left and PSU (3-3, 0-3) trailing by one.

Allar gained one yard on a third-and-four play from the Lions’ 31.

He stayed down and gingerly walked to the sideline. Allar eventually left the field on a medical cart.

After the game, Penn State coach James Franklin said Allar is done for the season. He did not offer an injury update.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer replaced Allar and scrambled for no gain on a fourth-and-three play.

Three-touchdown underdog Northwestern (4-2, 2-1) ran out the clock.

Allar completed 13 of 20 passes for 137 yards and rushed for 25 yards and a touchdown on six carries. Allar also threw an end zone interception in the first quarter.

Penn State, which lost 42-37 to UCLA a week earlier, visits Iowa next week in a Saturday night game.
