Rare White Puppy Adorably Looks Like He Came From Another Planet

A gorgeous white-as-light Border Collie with eyes that look strange and beautiful is taking the internet by storm. This is the kind of pup David Bowie would write a song about. Like they’re seeing a world the rest of us can’t. He looks like the “Starman waiting in the sky…”

VladimirTheCollie posted him “just chillin,” and this puppy is definitely doing anything but that. He is stunning and other-wordly, but acts like a big, goofy ghost who forgot how to haunt. All giant feet and curiosity. So many commenters in the video are wondering if this pup is AI. He’s real, alright!

Commenters in the video are smitten, of course!

Luc89 said, “Beautiful is an understatement.” Ireland and quite a few others worried that, “Yeah, so someone is going to try and steal this puppy… GORGEOUS!!!”

Many others are worried about inherent health issues prevalent in white-coated, blue-eyed dogs.

It’s evident from other videos posted that this pup is not blind, or experiencing any hearing loss, but I believe his dad also mentioned that he’s having the pup tested just to make sure. Check out this video where this gorgeous guy is learning some new tricks!

True albinism in dogs is actually pretty rare. It happens when a dog is born entirely without any pigment. They have pink skin, white lashes, and pale blue eyes with pink skin around them, and they’ll squint when in–or looking at–bright light.

In dogs, partial albinism is also possible. That means a dog would have enough melanin to produce *some* pigmentation, but their overall appearance would remain light.

There’s also a possibility that our Starman is a double merle, which creates the same kind of whiteout effect, although the genetics are totally different. Double merle dogs can be born deaf or partially blind because the same genetic quirk that erases pigment also affects how their eyes develop.

The only way this pup’s dad will know for sure is through genetic testing, which I saw him mention that he’s getting done in another post. Until then, this pup is a little mystery waiting to be solved!
