Mailman Sees Wild Baby On Ground And Immediately Covers Him With A Box And A Note

A mail carrier in Australia named Wayne was doing his deliveries when he spotted someone on the ground. He went over to investigate and found a grey-headed flying fox who had unfortunately passed away. He was about to move on … when he realized there was a baby clinging to the fallen mama.

Immediately, Wayne felt protective of the little baby. He contacted Wildlife Victoria for help and wanted to do something to make sure the baby stayed safe in the meantime. He decided to cover him and his mom with a box, and on top of the box, he taped a note.

“Please do not lift or take,” the note said. “Injured bat under tub … Wildlife Victoria coming to pick up.”

For the next couple of hours, Wayne would stop by the box to make sure it hadn’t been disturbed. He was dedicated to protecting the baby bat, which is why rescuers decided to name him Little Wayne.

Little Wayne is now in the care of Joey and Bat Sanctuary (JABS), and everyone there is so grateful to Big Wayne for helping to get the little guy to safety.

“Little Wayne was cool and quiet, and rather dehydrated,” Julia of JABS told The Dodo. “He and his mum may have been on the power lines for a day or two before the strong winds yesterday blew them off.”

The baby flying fox is thriving in the rescue’s care, enjoying his specialty formula, teddy bear and pacifier. He’ll stay with his rescuers until he’s old enough to be released back into the wild.

Despite everything he went through, Little Wayne’s story has a happy ending, all thanks to Big Wayne and how much he cared.
