Why the Browns traded CB Greg Newsome II to the Jaguars for CB Tyson Campbell: Mary Kay Cabot

BEREA, Ohio — Why would the Browns trade their own first-round cornerback in Greg Newsome II who was off to one of the best starts of his career for the Jaguars second-round cornerback in Tyson Campbell from the same 2021 draft?

The trade, which came out of the blue when the Jaguars proposed it, was made for both economic and football reasons. The Browns shipped Newsome and a 2026 sixth-round pick in exchange for Campbell and a seventh-rounder.
