Every phone manufacturer wants to make a thin phone now, and one of the most experienced ones is showing exactly why it’s been in the game so long. Motorola’s upcoming Edge 70 is reportedly going to bring a much bigger battery than what the most popular thin options can offer.
Motorola has taken leaks into its own hands. The official Polish Motorola website recently posted a small teaser for the new Edge 70. This seems to be part of a weekly teaser series where the company unpacks bits of its new phone every Wedensday, according to the site.
On that webpage, the Motorola Edge 70 is shown with a simple block of text detailing exactly what type of battery the new ultra-thin phone will pack. The Motorola Edge 70 is going to get a 4,800mAh battery, which might not sound like a massive accompishment given the current state of flagships, but it is.
This is emphasized further as the company notes the phone will use a silicon-carbon battery – battery tech Samsung, Apple, or even Google haven’t implemented. Silicon-carbon batteries offer more efficient energy transfer rates, and a 4,800mAh silicon-carbon battery has the potential to last even longer than a traditional Li-ion unit.
Still, it’s worth noting that the 5.8mm Galaxy S25 Edge gets a humble 3,900mAh battery, and the brand-new Apple iPhone Air uses a 3,149mAh battery. Both of those phones were released to ride the hype of ultra-thin devices. The Galaxy S25 Edge comes in at only 5.8mm thick, while the iPhone Air won’t take up more than 5.6mm of space.
Motorola’s Edge 70 was recently reported to measure 5.8mm, which is the same as Samsung’s thin offering. However, there is a significant difference in thickness between the company’s previous generation of Edge devices, though the lineup has always maintained the “thin” descriptor.
At 4,800mAh, the Motorola Edge 70 will have a massive advantage over every other ultra-thin device on the market. With the S25 Edge bringing the same thickness profile, there’s little excuse for the company if the next version doesn’t compete with flagship-level battery specs.
The same official website has several legal notices that pertain to features not even mentioned on the webpage. For instance, it mentions the Motorola Edge 70 has an IP68 and IP69 rating, and a 50MP camera. Since these are legal notices, they can be interpreted as generalized pieces of incomplete information, so take it with a grain of salt.
Still, they divulge some interesting details. For instance, it appears the phone will be priced anywhere from €799 to €899. Details about Gorilla Glass i7 are also outlined, which may indicate that Motorola has chosen that material for the display covering. VRAM is also mentioned, which is a nice feature to see in such a phone.
Even though Motorola hasn’t been among household names for some time, the brand makes solid Android phones that easily compete with Google, Samsung, OnePlus, and more. GSMArena also reported that the Edge 70 will support 68W wired charging and 15W wireless charging, which is assumedly Qi2. There’s no word on whether that’s “Qi2-ready” or not.
The phone will also come with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 SoC and 12GB of RAM. Overall, it sounds like a solid option, especially considering other thin Android and iOS devices are asking for large sacrifices.
