Final: Seattle Mariners 8, Detroit Tigers 4
Despite a late comeback attempt from the Tigers, the Mariners dominated the majority of the Tigers’ first game on their own field in over two weeks. Detroit now on the brink of elimination heading into Game 4 on Wednesday.
Bottom 9th: Lefty Caleb Ferguson takes over on the mound for Seattle. Jake Rogers and Jahmai Jones pinch hit and each get on base with a single and walk, respectively. Spencer Torkelson with the big hit of the night, scoring both on a double. The runs keep coming as Andy Ibañez pokes a single through the infield. Rally forces Ferguson out of the game for closer Andres Muñoz.
Muñoz takes care of business, retiring three straight batters to clinch the game. Mariners 8, Tigers 4
Top 9th: Brenan Hanifee on the mound for the ninth. More insurance for Seattle as Cal Raleigh goes deep to left-center field off a sinker on the edge of the zone for a two-run homer. Three outs to go. Mariners 8, Tigers 1
Bottom 8th: The Mariners bring on right-hander Eduard Bazardo for the eighth inning. Quick work for Seattle as Javier Báez and Kerry Carpenter strike out swinging and Gleyber Torres flies out to right field. Most of the crowd at Comerica Park is exiting the stadium. Mariners 6, Tigers 1
Top 8th: Kerry Carpenter with a major error out in right field, can’t bring down a fly ball from Victor Robles that allows the Mariners to put two in scoring position. A sacrifice fly adds some insurance for Seattle. Mariners 6, Tigers 1
Bottom 7th: Seattle makes its first call to the bullpen with righty Matt Brash on the mound. No trouble for Brash as he forces groundouts on Zach McKinstry, Dillon Dingler and Parker Meadows. Mariners 5, Tigers 1
Top 7th: Keider Montero issues a walk to Jorge Polanco, but otherwise makes it through the top of Seattle’s order unscathed. He got Cal Raleigh to strike out swinging and Julio Rodríguez on a ground out. Mariners 5, Tigers 1
Bottom 6th: Logan Gilbert remains in and puts together another clean inning for the Mariners. Colt Keith went down chasing, Riley Greene fould out and Spencer Torkelson whiffed on a splitter inside for strike three. Mariners 5, Tigers 1
Top 6th: Brant Hurter looked like he was going to get a quick inning with a pair of first-pitch outs. But J.P. Crawford caught a sweeper down in the zone and sent it 397 feet for a solo homer. Keider Montero takes over out of the bullpen and gets Randy Arozarena swinging for the final out of the inning. Mariners 5, Tigers 1
Bottom 5th: The Tigers claw one back. After Dillon Dingler was hit by a pitch, Javier Báez put runners on the corners with a single. Kerry Carpenter had the chance for a big hit, but only managed an RBI groundout fielder’s choice after Seattle’s Josh Naylor couldn’t hold onto the ball for a double play. Mariners 4, Tigers 1
Top 5th: Lefty Brant Hurter takes over for Tommy Kahnle. He gets the Tigers back on track with a pair of groundouts and finishing off the inning with a swinging strikeout of Eugenio Suárez. Mariners 4, Tigers 0
Bottom 4th: Nothing going for the Tigers on offense. Riley Greene went chasing outside the zone again. Spencer Torkelson flew out and Logan Gilbert finishes with a strikeout-putout of Zach McKinstry. Mariners 4, Tigers 0
Top 4th: Eugenio Suárez adds to the Seattle lead with a leadoff 422-foot home run to left field. Seattle’s done an excellent job deflating the home crowd. After getting an out, Jack Flaherty is pulled for Tommy Kahnle. 3 1/3 innings for Flaherty, six strikeouts and a three-run deficit for Detroit.
Big recovery from Kahnle after walking his first batter to strike out Randy Arozarena, but Cal Raleigh pokes through an RBI single to continue growing this Tigers deficit. Mariners 4, Tigers 0
Bottom 3rd: Gleyber Torres continues to provide consistent offense for the Tigers, working a two-out double to left-center field. But he’ll be stranded after Colt Keith’s fly out to center field. Mariners 2, Tigers 0
Top 3rd: Victor Robles gets to that Jack Flaherty knuckle curve and rockets a leadoff double down the left-field line. J.P. Crawford drops a single into the outfield and an errant throw from Riley Greene allows Robles to score. Randy Arozarena’s single up the middle scores another. Flaherty recovers to retire three straight and get out of the inning. Mariners 2, Tigers 0
Bottom 2nd: Another runner aboard with Dillon Dingler clubbing a two-out ground ball through the infield. But Parker Meadows strands him with a swinging strikeout on a 96 mph fastball from Logan Gilbert. Tigers 0, Mariners 0
Top 2nd: Jorge Polanco goes down with the second swinging strikeout from Jack Flaherty’s knuckle curve outside the zone. Gleyber Torres makes another nice play to clean up a chopper from Josh Naylor. Despite a walk to Eugenio Suárez, Flaherty finishes on a foul-tip strikeout. Flaherty used 24 pitches, but still moving. Tigers 0, Mariners 0

Top 1st: After a three-hour rain delay, Game 3 of the ALDS has begun as playoff baseball returns to Detroit.
An early challenge goes the way of the Tigers as Gleyber Torres’ throw to Spencer Torkelson is called an out on Randy Arozarena after an initial safe call. Cal Raleigh flies out to right field and Jack Flaherty ends the inning getting Julio Rodríguez to chase. Tigers 0, Mariners 0
Latest on weather delay:
6:09 p.m.: We have first pitch! The game will have an expected start at 7 p.m. ET. Loud cheers around Comerica Park as the ground’s crew emerges from the tunnel and begins the process of removing the tarp.
5:45 p.m.: FOX has announced the Tigers-Mariners game has been moved to FS2, MLB Network and the Fox One app. Still no update on a start time.
5:19 p.m.: Nothing more in terms of start time. The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand is reporting that if today’s game runs into the other ALDS game between the Blue Jays and Yankees (8 p.m. start) that the Tigers-Mariners game will shift from FS1 to FS2. The game will also be available on both the Fox Sports and Fox One apps.
4:37 p.m.: More showers popped up to the west, which could continue this delay further. No updates from the Tigers in stadium at this point.
4:07 p.m.: According to CBS News Detroit meteorologist Ahmad Bajjey, the back end of the forecasted rain should be clear by around 4:20 p.m. Teams will need some time for pregame warmup, but that could be shortened.
3:17 p.m.: Game 3 of the ALDS will begin in a delay due to inclement weather, the Tigers just announced. No go for a 4:08 p.m. first pitch. It’s not currently raining too harshly at Comerica Park, but there is rain forecasted over the next hour.
2:30 p.m.: Despite teams not taking batting practice before Game 3 of the ALDS, the outlook is fairly positive the Tigers would have, at most, a minimal delay due to a lingering threat of rain and thunderstorms.
The tarp has remained out on the field with about 90 minutes until scheduled first pitch. There doesn’t seem to be much of a threat the game would be postponed altogether, but a delayed start from the initial 4:08 p.m. is still possible.
“We’re going to play,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said. “We don’t know exactly when we’re going to start. Right now it’s on time. I think I’m going to get an update as we get closer to game time, but all systems go from what I understand.”

DETROIT — Postseason baseball has returned to Detroit.
The Tigers weathered an end-of-the-year road trip, the AL Wild Card Series in Cleveland and the first two games of the ALDS in Seattle to finally make it back to a friendly ballpark.
Detroit hosts the Seattle Mariners for Game 3 of the ALDS today with a scheduled start of 4:08 p.m. at Comerica Park.
After winning game one in extra innings, the Mariners grabbed one back Sunday night with an eighth-inning rally.
With the best-of-five series tied at one, the winner of Game 3 will have a major advantage in trying to advance to the ALCS.
The Tigers will go to right-hander Jack Flaherty (8-15, 4.64 ERA) on the mound, coming off a 4 2/3 inning, one-run outing against the Guardians in the series-clinching game last round.
Flaherty started one game against the Mariners this season, going five innings, striking out seven and allowing two runs while not being involved in the final decision.
Seattle turns to righty Logan Gilbert (6-6, 3.44) in his first postseason outing since 2022. Gilbert started twice against the Tigers this season with a 2.61 ERA in 10 1/3 innings of work with 12 strikeouts to four walks.
