Jimmy Fallon’s band couldn’t wait any longer. The Roots interrupted his opening monologue after just a couple of minutes and demanded he bring out his first guest, Taylor Swift. Fallon obliged.
Swift made her seventh appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Monday, October 6, 2025, three days after releasing her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl.”
Fallon asked Swift a number of questions about her new album, her engagement to Travis Kelce and a lot more. Here are some of the most surprising things Swift said:
KEPT HER ALBUM A SECRET FOR ONE YEAR
“This was sort of a surprise and a secret that I had been carrying for about a year,” Swift told Fallon. “I was so excited. It’s like, when you’re like, I got a really great Christmas present for my brother and you have it for a year.”
Swift added about the release of her new album how excited she is that essentially her fans have opened her present and are now playing with the toy.
SWIFT’S ENGAGEMENT RING
Swift showed off her engagement ring to Fallon. She says Travis Kelce actually had it for quite a long time before he gave it to her.
“He custom designed it with this amazing jeweler. I look at it constantly. It doesn’t feel in any way normal for me. He’s just my favorite person I’ve met, no offense to everyone else.”
WHEN KELCE PROPOSED
Swift says Kelce proposed to her right after she recorded the “New Heights” podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce, which first aired on August 13th.
“I think for Travis, the podcast was sort of a distraction, a ruse, to keep me not looking out the windows of the house. Every time he does a podcast, it’s not like he blacks out all the windows. There are blackout drapes on every single window of the house.”
“He’s walking around sort of nervous about the podcast. I’ve never seen this dude nervous, ever. So, he’s like, do you want to go and walk around the backyard and have a glass of wine? I’m like, I’m always going to want to do that.”
Fallon then showed one of the engagement photos posted to Instagram on August 26 when the engagement was announced to the public.
WHEN ED SHEERAN LEARNED OF THE ENGAGEMENT
Fallon read five rumors he saw on the internet about Swift. Four of them were false. One of them was true. Fallon tried to guess. Swift revealed that one of her best friends, Sheeran, learned about her engagement on Instagram like everyone else.
“He doesn’t have a phone. When I’m going through my texts and who have I texted the last month of my life, he just wasn’t there. This is one of my favorite people on the planet. When the news came out, I was like, OMG, I forgot to call Ed. But, he doesn’t have a phone.”
BREAD OBSESSION
Swift said one of her latest obsessions is bread. So much so, that she can’t stop talking about the food item.
“I have become the most annoying person that anyone knows about the topic of bread. It’s like, I have these baking or cooking obsessions where my recent obsession, whatever it happens to be, becomes my entire personality. It’s all I can talk about. I have to actually stop myself from talking about bread at parties.”
SPEED ROUND
Fallon asked Swift a series of questions about the last things she has done. Here they are:
Last person she texted: Selena Gomez
Last movie she saw: “One Battle After Another”
Last fall related activity: Baked cinnamon roles the other day
Last song of your own that you listened to, not on your new album: “I have this tradition, when the eve before I have a new album that comes out that starts a new musical era, I listen to the entirety of the last album that I made. So, I listed to ”The Tortured Poets Department” to say goodbye to it.”
Last song of any artist that you listened to: “Tit For Tat” by Tate McRae.
Swift will also be on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on Wednesday, October 8 as the show’s only guest.
This will be her third visit to Studio 8G, first appearing in 2014 with her last guest appearance on the show in 2021.
