Timothée Chalamet and director Josh Safdie just took the stage at the New York Film Festival on Monday to surprise the crowd by announcing that their new movie Marty Supreme would screen tonight in its world premiere.
The move comes as NYFF seated the crowd for a “secret screening.” That’s when Chalamet and Safdie came out of the wings to cheers.
See their entrances below.
A24‘s Marty Supreme stars Chalamet as Marty Mauser in a movie set in the world of 1950s ping pong. Mauser is a man with a dream no one respects, who goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness. While never confirmed, sources have long indicated the project draws loose inspiration from the story of pro ping pong player Marty Reisman.
Gwyneth Paltrow co-stars and co-leads a cast that includes Odessa A’Zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, Fran Drescher and Sandra Bernhard.
Safdie directed from a script written with Ronald Bronstein. Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet and A24 are producers.
Marty Supreme is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day.
