ARAM Mayhem, Smurfing & More Dev Update

Hey everyone, Pabro, Meddler, Riot Cadmus, Riot Phlox, Phroxzon, and just a capybara here with a quick TL;DW of today’s Dev Update:

  • We’re ramping up our punishments for botting and smurfing over the next few months, and have been taking things slowly to avoid falsely punishing anyone.
  • Since patch 25.18 we’ve banned 400,000 purchased accounts that were used in Ranked, another 1.5 million accounts that had been botted and sold, and another 2.5 million accounts that were waiting to be sold.
  • We have a FAQ out now to address common questions over account punishment.
  • All accounts that are purchased and/or sold after patch 25.18 will be detected and banned going forward.
  • Starting in 25.23, punishments will carry over between accounts that we are highly confident share an owner. This means that the person griefing your games can’t just hop on an alt and keep trolling—we’re going to apply the same penalty and escalations—across all of their accounts.
  • We’ll be linking all accounts back to a single owner through a combination of Vanguard data, account data, and behavioral data.
  • As a note, KR already uses a unique identification system to verify each player when signing up for a new account and, as a result, will follow their local policies when it comes to account linking.
  • We also have some improvements to streamer mode coming based on feedback from pros and creators. We’ve also worked with third party apps to make sure to hide your personal data.+
  • Starting in Patch 25.20 you’ll have three options to choose from for Streamer mode:
    • Hide Other Names, which is today’s streamer mode functionality.
    • Hide My Name, which will hide your Riot ID and game name but not your account progression stats like champ mastery and ranked borders, which people could theoretically use to find you.
    • Hide My Everything, which hides all identifying information about your account from lobby to end of game.

  • This November marks one year since Arcane’s finale, and we’re celebrating in patch 25.23 by bringing back all the Arcane skins from Season 1 and Season 2, with bundle sales. There will also be a free mini reward track containing new icons and emotes.
  • We’re also bringing back Arcane Fractured Jinx with new spawn-in animations, some visual upgrades to all three of her forms, and new recalls and chompers for Shimmer Jinx and Powder to better match their personas.
  • If you already got the skin last year, it will be updated for free to include the new features.
  • We’re adding all champions to the practice tool in patch 25.21 if you’re queuing up by yourself.
  • Blue Essence Emporium is coming back in patch 25.23.
  • Your Shop will be coming back in patch 25.24.
  • World’s kicks off next week on October 14 in Beijing, make sure you do your Pick ‘Ems!
  • Our next dev update will come out in late November/early December and we’ll be talking about some of the things you can expect at the start of 2026.
