Ole Miss freshman football player Corey Adams was killed in a shooting Saturday night in Tennessee.
He was 18 years old.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday that Adams had died in the incident, which took place in the Memphis suburb of Cordova.
Law enforcement found Adams with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle at an intersection.
“They provided life-saving measures until Shelby County Fire arrived,” the sheriff’s office said. “Shelby County Fire personnel later pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.”

The authorities said four other men suffered gunshot wounds and arrived at local hospitals.
None are in critical condition.
Adams, a defensive lineman, enrolled at Ole Miss in the winter and was slated to make his college football debut in the fall.
“We are devastated to learn that Corey Adams, a freshman on the team, passed away last night in Cordova, Tennessee,” Ole Miss Football wrote in a statement on X. “While our program is trying to cope with this tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
“Out of respect for his family, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask the Ole Miss community to keep Corey in their thoughts and respect the privacy of everyone involved.”
Adams, who was from New Orleans and twice earned All-State honors at Edna Karr High School, was one of the nation’s top defensive lineman recruits.
On Sunday, the Edna Karr football team’s Facebook account wrote that the team is “heartbroken and tormented to pieces” over the loss.
“Corey Adams was more than just a football player! He was a friend, brother, son, student, and all around great young man,” the post said. “We never question God but this is one we just don’t understand. This wasn’t supposed to be the end of his story but we will #DoIt4Co.”
