After recapturing his light heavyweight title at UFC 320, Alex Pereira has his eyes firmly set on a heavyweight super fight.
This past Saturday, the premier promotion returned to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for UFC 320, headlined by an anticipated light heavyweight rematch between Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira.
The Brazilian fan favorite managed to make the relevant adjustments from their last fight and went on to knock Ankalaev out in the very first round to recapture his title.
And after once again becoming one of the promotion’s biggest stars, there are several of options for ‘Poatan’s’ next fight.
Pereira targets heavyweight super fight following UFC 320 win
Ever since moving up from middleweight, Pereira has continuously teased a future move up to the heavyweight division, stating that he wants to become the first ever three weight world champion.
And following his win over Ankalaev, the 38-year-old claimed that he had an entire speech planned to callout former heavyweight champion Jon Jones, but instead decided to dedicate his speech to Jones’ late brother, Arthur Jones.
Despite that, not long after his fight in an interview with the UFC, Pereira went on to declare that he wants to fight Jones on the upcoming White House event, dismissing both Tom Aspinall and Ciryl Gane.
“Heavyweight (is the most probable next),” Pereira said on About Last Fight.
“No, (not Aspinall or Gane), I want a super fight. It would be at the White House, against Jon Jones. That’s a super fight.”
Pereira calling Jones out is the perfect scenario for ‘Bones’, who has been campaigning to make his comeback on the White House event ever since he prematurely retired earlier this year.
Although the former champion would like to compete on the White House event, UFC boss Dana White has continued to state that he can’t trust including him on such a big event.
Not only that, but the UFC boss has also stated that he is hesitant to allow Pereira to move up to heavyweight because there are fights for him at light heavyweight.
Who would Pereira fight at light heavyweight?
On the UFC 320 undercard, Jiri Prochazka picked up another extremely impressive win when he knocked out Khalil Rountree Jr in the third round.
However, the contender who is seemingly in the best position for the next title shot is Carlos Ulberg, who is riding a nine fight win streak.
At this point, it is unclear whether ‘Poatan’s’ next fight will come at heavyweight after years of declaring his desire to fight at the weight, or whether he will continue to defend his 205lb strap.
