‘Best Brazilian fighter to ever exist’: Alex Pereira’s unreal KO of Magmomed Ankalaev at UFC 320 sets off MMA world

Make Alex Pereira mad at your own risk.

After enduring seven months of relentless poking and gloating from Magomed Ankalaev since their March bout, Pereira exacted the sweetest brand of revenge imaginable at UFC 320 on Saturday, brutally knocking Ankalaev out in just 80 seconds to reclaim the UFC light heavyweight title, then memeing over the ex-champ’s battered body to ignite a wild scene inside Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.

The spectacular victory allowed Pereira a moment of reclamation after the 38-year-old blamed a broken hand and a bout of norovirus for his listless performance in his decision loss to Ankalaev at UFC 313.

Pereira (14-3) is now a three-time UFC champion in addition to being a two-division UFC champion — a feat he’s accomplished in just 12 bouts since debuting with the promotion in 2021.

Not surprisingly, Saturday’s highlight-reel redemption set off a sea of plaudits from the new champ’s peers within the MMA world, including a grateful response from UFC legend Jon Jones after Pereira called for a moment of silence to honor Jones’ older brother, former NFL lineman Arthur Jones, who died at age 39 on Friday.
