SC State University campus on lockdown following reported shooting, officials say

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – South Carolina State University Department of Public Safety has confirmed that their campus is on lockdown following an apparent shooting Saturday night.

The reported gunshots came from Hugine Suites located on campus. The university’s Homecoming concert, which was scheduled for Saturday night, has since been canceled.

Officials are urging Hugine residents who are not in the complex to report to the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center and for anyone inside the residence hall to stay put. Students in other residence halls are urged to return to their rooms and off-campus residents are urged to leave campus.

Officials have asked the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to investigate the incident.
