TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Not many rivalries are as heated and personal as Miami vs. Florida State. The rivalry ratchets up a notch this season with both programs vying to win the ACC title.
No. 3 Miami has an opportunity to solidify itself today as the favorite in the ACC. No. 18 Florida State can regain its footing after an unexpected loss in double overtime last week at Virginia. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at Doak Campbell Stadium.
Both programs feature transfer quarterbacks who have sparked their respective offenses. FSU’s Tommy Castellanos has led a revamped attack, lifting a program that was among the worst last season to No. 1 in total offense and scoring offense under first-year coordinator Gus Malzahn. Miami’s Carson Beck is a serious Heisman Trophy contender, completing 73% of his passes after struggling in 2024 during his final year at Georgia.
The noticeable difference between the teams? Defense. Miami is allowing only 11.5 points per game, ranking seventh nationally. FSU ranks 42nd nationally after a 46-38 loss at Virginia.
The Hurricanes snapped a three-game losing streak last season in the series with a 36-14 win in Miami Gardens. A win today would give them back-to-back victories against the Seminoles for the first time since 2003-04. A victory for FSU would be its first against a top-3 opponent at home since 1996 (Florida).
