Suspect arrested after car crashes into San Jose post office, catches fire – NBC Bay Area

San Jose Police are investigating after a car crashed into a post office overnight, causing the building to catch fire.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. at the post office in the 6500 block of Crown Boulevard, San Jose police said.

When officers arrived, SJPD said they discovered a vehicle had been driven into the post office and caught fire, causing the entire building to go up in flames. No injuries were reported.

A suspect was taken into custody in relation to the fire, SJPD said. But the circumstances of the fire are under investigation.

A source with knowledge of the investigation told NBC Bay Area the suspect told officers on the scene he is Pat Tillman’s brother, and that he live-streamed the event on a social media platform.

According to the Santa Clara County Sheriff Office’s inmate locator, a Richard Tillman was booked Sunday and is being held without bail. It’s unclear what charges Richard Tillman was booked on.

Pat Tillman was a San Jose native and NFL star who passed up a lucrative football contract to serve his country in Afghanistan. He was killed by friendly fire in 2004 while serving as an Army ranger.

San Jose Police are working collaboratively with San Jose Fire Department arson investigators and US Postal Inspectors to determine who will be the lead investigating agency.
