LG is set to refresh several older LG TVs with a host of new features following a firmware update, which brings webOS 25 to previous models. LG will be gradually rolling out the update across its 2024, 2023, and some 2022 models starting today. The global rollout will take some time before the firmware launches on your LG TV, but you can update via USB to speed up the process.
webOS 25 includes a few notable changes. A standout new feature is 1440p resolution at 120Hz support, which is a big win for gamers. Several AI features are also included, such as AI art and AI Sound Mode. Check out the full list of changes below and see if your LG TV is on the list.
What are the webOS 25 upgrades?
With webOS 25, you can expect a handful of changes. Support for 1440p at 120Hz is included, which is particularly useful if you’re playing the Nintendo Switch 2 on one of the best LG TVs. Several AI features are also coming to LG TVs with the aforementioned AI Sound Mode and AI art functionality.
LG also updated the home hub control for smart home devices with a redesign that makes it easier to use. You can also now hide pre-installed apps on the home screen, and a fix has been implemented for the input icon that switches devices when clicked, as opposed to when you hover over the icon with the magic remote.
The firmware update has introduced a few issues, as noted by some users. One such problem is external and internal media player apps crashing after prolonged use due to memory concerns. We’ll keep an eye on these issues and update if any changes occur in the future.
Which LG TVs are getting it?
In keeping with its promise to scale webOS across five years for every new TV lineup, LG’s webOS Re:New program returns with several updates for its older models. The firmware update is based on webOS 25, specifically firmware versions 33.21.85 and 33.22.15. (The latter firmware update is the newer version with several bug fixes.)
It might take a bit before you see the update populate your TV downloads, as LG is rolling it out globally. For a quicker way to update your older LG TV to webOS 5.0, visit the LG support page and search for your specific model. Under the “Downloads” section, the firmware files should be listed in both zip and PDF formats.
From here, download the firmware update and load it on a USB drive. Connect the drive to your TV, and it should show a prompt confirming if you want to update. Otherwise, you can simply wait for the download to become available naturally as it rolls out globally.
