Yankees’ Ryan McMahon goes end-over-end into dugout for Game 3 catch

This is the defense the Yankees signed up for when they acquired Ryan McMahon.

The Yankees’ third baseman ran a long way to not only track down a high, arcing pop-up from Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran, but he hung onto the ball after tumbling over the third-base dugout for the second out of the eighth inning.

McMahon ran 75 feet — per ESPN — to track the ball down in front of the dugout railing before somersaulting into the Boston bench. Thankfully, for the Yankees’ sake, McMahon was OK and remained in the game after making the Gold Glove-caliber play.

It helped protect an incredible outing for Cam Schlittler, who went eight scoreless after he got Trevor Story to ground out one pitch later.

McMahon ranks in the 92nd percentile on Statcast’s outs above average, and he showed exactly that skill on Thursday night.
