The Most Powerful Steam OS Handheld Gaming PC Is on Sale Today at Best Buy

Ahead of the October Prime Day sale that go live next week, Best Buy is offering a discount on the most powerful Steam-based gaming handheld. The Lenovo Legion Go S AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme SteamOS gaming PC is available for $779.99 (normally $830). This is one of the best new gaming handheld PCs of 2025 and the only officially supported SteamOS handheld that isn’t made by Valve. Because Amazon doesn’t carry this product (not counting questionable marketplace vendors), I doubt Best Buy will drop the price will drop any further next week.

Jackie reviewed the Legion Go S Steam OS version and concluded that it is “one of the best handheld gaming PCs on the market”. We talking specifically about the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme model, which is significantly more powerful than the Ryzen Z2 Go despite the fact that the Z2 Go is a newer generation chip. It’s also equipped with 32GB of RAM, which is more than the 24GB found in the Asus ROG Ally X (and the upcoming Xbox Ally X) and the 16GB found in the Steam Deck.

The AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme is significantly more powerful than the AMD APU found in the Steam Deck. The extra power combined with the increased memory allows you to run games smoothly on the Legion Go S’s bigger and better 8″ 1920×1200 120Hz display. The Legion Go S does not have an OLED screen, however I personally think the higher resolution and faster refresh rate on a high-quality IPS display outweigh the benefits of OLED. Battery life remains roughly equivalent, however the Legion Go S has the benefit of a much faster maximum charging rate.

If you’re willing to pony up an addition $220, the Asus Xbox ROG Ally gaming handheld is now available for preorder for $999.99. The biggest update over the existing ROG Ally X is the new AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip. Preliminary benchmarks are promising; there is a real improvement in frames, especially at lower wattages. However, the Xbox ROG Ally is a Windows-only handheld and there’s currently no news of a Steam-based Ryzen Z2 Extreme gaming handheld.
