Galaxy Z TriFold: Launch details for Samsung’s first tri-folding smartphone emerge with US release mooted

Samsung has now started teasing its next foldable smartphone release in China. As we have covered separately, this mid-October launch event will likely cover the W26 series. Based on past generations, the series will likely include more elaborate-looking versions of the Galaxy Z Flip7 and Galaxy Z Fold7 (curr. $1,766 on Amazon) rather than the company’s long-rumoured tri-foldable smartphone.

Nonetheless, it seems that the latter may not be far behind. In fact, the so-called Galaxy Z TriFold could emerge before the end of October after months of leaks and rumours. Incidentally, numerous animations emerged a few days ago highlighting various multitasking and productivity features that could be exclusive to the device.

According to reports in South Korean media, Samsung intends to showcase the so-called Galaxy Z TriFold during the next Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) annual meeting. Scheduled between October 31 and November 1, this year’s meeting will only be the second hosted in South Korea since APEC’s establishment in 1989.

Typically, showcasing a new smartphone during a meeting of heads of government seems improbable. However, South Korean media stresses that Samsung and its partners consider the Galaxy Z TriFold a culmination of the country’s technological innovations rather than a mere smartphone release. At this stage, Samsung is expected to present the Galaxy Z TriFold in the US too, unlike last year’s Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.
