An arrest warrant has been issued for a popular actor after his dogs reportedly killed a neighbor‘s dog.
Tyrese Gibson, known widely for his roles in the “Fast and Furious” movie franchise, is now wanted by Atlanta authorities on an animal cruelty charge, according to CBS News.
The Fulton County Police Department said a 911 call came in from a Buckhead residence on Sept. 18 reporting that Gibson’s four Cane Corso dogs had mauled a neighbor’s King Charles Cavalier Spaniel.
Gibson’s neighbor, Harrison Parker, claimed he found his dog dead just five minutes after letting the canine out in his front yard, according to Fulton County Police Department captain Nicole Dwyer.
Security footage captured Gibson’s dogs scratching at a door across the street minutes before the attack.
Shortly after Parker found his dog dead, another neighbor called 911 stating that she could not get into her car because Gibson’s large dogs were on the loose and blocking her from doing so.
Dwyer said multiple warnings were issued to the actor as his dogs were reported to be running loose on five different occasions in the week leading up to the neighbor’s dog’s death.
Gibson, 46, told authorities he would surrender his dogs to Animal Services on Sept. 22. But when officers arrived at his home, he requested three or four more days to decide.
The department secured a search warrant for Gibson’s home and an arrest warrant for animal cruelty, after he refused to hand over the dogs. Officers searched the Buckhead home later that evening just to discover that Gibson and the dogs were gone.
Gibson’s legal team said he “extends his deepest condolences to the family who lost their beloved dog to this tragic incident that occurred while Mr. Gibson was away from his home,” according to CBS News. “Upon learning of this unfortunate accident, Mr. Gibson immediately made the difficult decision to rehome his dogs to a safe and loving environment.”
The statement also ensured that Gibson is cooperating fully with the authorities to address and resolve the issue.
