Washington – The first shutdown of the federal government since 2018 will begin Wednesday unless Democrats and Republicans in Congress can come up with a funding deal to avoid disruptions for millions of Americans.
If Congress fails to agree to a short-term budget extension, nearly 3 million federal employees could be furloughed without pay, including about 116,000 in New York state.
