Sydney Sweeney didn’t invite just anyone to her birthday party — but she did invite Glen Powell.
The Anyone But You costars recently reunited as the actress celebrated her 28th birthday with a space-themed party. Photos from the event show Sweeney rocking a sparkly, silver mini dress while surrounded by friends and family in similar space-inspired attire.
“Welcome to planet syd,” Sweeney wrote on Instagram, sharing a carousel of photos from the event. One of the snaps sees her posing side by side with Powell, who is decked out as a NASA astronaut, holding his helmet as they embrace for the cameras.

Powell and Sweeney’s friendship began when they joined forces to lead Anyone But You, a twist on Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing that follows two exes on an enemies-to-lovers trajectory after they hatch a fake dating scheme to trick their friends and family. The film hit theaters in December 2023 and dominated at the box office for several weeks, ultimately grossing $220 million worldwide.
Even before the rom-com’s success, there was plenty of curiosity about Powell and Sweeney’s relationship. After getting photographed looking cozy together in Australia, where they filmed the movie, the duo frequently made headlines. At the time, both stars were in separate relationships, which have now ended.
In 2023, Sweeney said the rumors were “really really hard on Glen, which made me sad,” but noted that it was otherwise “such a beautiful experience for the both of us” to work together.
Addressing the speculation a year later, Powell indicated that they did at times lean into the rumors for the sake of marketing. “The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry. Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry,” Powell told The New York Times. “That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.”
Despite the stars shrugging off the romance rumors, Sweeney calling off her engagement to ex Jonathan Davino added fuel to the fire — as did Powell’s ex, Gigi Paris, speaking out about their split.
In a June appearance on Emma Klipstein’s Too Much podcast, Paris admitted that wild speculation about Powell and Sweeney having an affair contributed to their breakup.

“I just wanted respect, especially if it’s gonna be public. Like, don’t make an ass out of me,” she said. “Like, just don’t make a fool out of someone you’ve been with for over three years talking about forever with. Just have some decency, you know? And at the end of the day, it was like, well, work comes first. And if that’s the case, power to you, that’s your priority. I gotta walk away. What sucked was how it was handled. I felt like I was just fed to the dogs.”

Meanwhile, Sweeney and Powell appear to have remained good friends and often speak highly of one another. In December, Sweeney sang Powell’s praises while honoring him as one of Entertainment Weekly‘s Entertainers of the Year.
“Glen approaches his craft with such care and precision that it elevates everyone around him,” she wrote. “On set, he’s not just a scene partner — he’s a real partner. He looks you in the eyes, and in that moment, you know you can do anything together. We trusted each other implicitly, and that bond translated into every frame of the film.”
She added that she frequently put that trust to the test, in a very literal way: “I’d randomly throw trust falls at him just to see if he had my back,” she shared. “He never let me down. That’s who Glen is, both on camera and off.”
