It sounds like there’s still no love lost between Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Green Bay Packers star edge rusher Micah Parsons following this past offseason’s blockbuster trade.
While speaking to reporters after Sunday night’s game between the two teams ended in a 40-40 tie in overtime, Parsons maintained that he hasn’t been in touch with Jones in much, and he revealed that he wasn’t even personally informed that he was being sent to the Packers.
“He couldn’t tell me as a man [about the trade],” Parsons said (3:24 mark). “So, to me, that emotion side was gone. It was more about a respect factor at this point.”
Parsons was able to reconnect with his old teammates for the first time since being traded, sharing embraces with multiple Cowboys players after the game. He even exchanged jerseys with Dallas cornerback Trevon Diggs. He said he doesn’t harbor any ill feelings toward the organization over how his time with the franchise ended.
“You know, honestly, I think all in all, the emotions for me being in Dallas went away the moment they traded me,” Parsons said.
Still, things remain icy between Parsons and Jones, who didn’t even interact with one another before the game started.
“It’s just not appropriate,” Jones said. “What are we supposed to do when we’re getting ready to play each other, all that’s at stake for him and all that’s at stake for our team, the Cowboys? That’s not appropriate to be visiting as you are getting ready to play.”
Parsons finished the game with three tackles, four quarterback pressures and a sack, the latter of which came in a clutch moment in overtime to help stave off a Cowboys touchdown.
Despite the anticlimactic ending of a tie, Jones said he was pleased with how the team handled facing Parsons, and he didn’t express any regrets about trading him.
“I knew that he is the great player that he is. And I like the way that we got ready to play him, played him and we ran at him, but we knew he was there,” Jones said. “He made a difference. But that’s the way it goes. Whether we like it or not, I’ll take my side of it and Green Bay can have their side of it.”
