The Rogue Prince of Persia developer Evil Empire has taken over the post-launch development of Brotato, the Blobfish-developed, multi-million-selling roguelike action shooter, the company announced.
Evil Empire is known for its long and steady years of support for Dead Cells from Motion Twin, which ended with the downloadable content “Return to Castlevania.” The Evil Empire team, founded by ex-Motion Twin developers, was originally created for this specific type of development—supporting and working with game communities to bring new content to beloved games.
“I’m excited to see how the game evolves under the direction of such a talented team and what fresh perspectives they’ll bring to the table,” said Blobfish CEO Thomas Gervraud in a press release. “Above all, though, I’m just eager to dive back in and have fun playing Brotato again.”
Here is a sneak peek at what players can expect when Brotato gets its first fill update in October—a new mob called “The Gobbler”:
Here is a brief overview of the game, via Evil Empire:
Brotato launched in 2023 and since then the top-down arena shooting roguelike has spawned more than 10 million-plus players around the world across PC, console, and mobile platforms. Already a robust title for solo or cooperative players, Evil Empire is joining in to keep baking Brotato, adding the ever-necessary topping of fire updates packed with new content and even more roguelike goodness. Experienced shepherds of roguelikes that they are, Evil Empire’s additions to Brotato won’t be thrown on willy-nilly (much like tuna on a baked potato, because who even does that).
Brotato is available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC via Steam, iOS, and Android.
