Community Will Push Me Out Well Before the Game Does

Another top Destiny 2 streamer, Datto, has announced that he’s stepping away from the game, joining GrenaderJake and Gladd in taking a break amid burnout and frustration.

It’s been a rough few weeks for Destiny 2, both in-game and outside of it. The Edge of Fate expansion dropped to the lowest Steam player peaks in the series’ history, bugs have plagued the new systems, and players on social media have been venting nonstop about how the game feels “punishing” and “ridiculously hard.”

The general mood in the community is at an all-time low. Earlier this week, two major creators, Gladd and GrenaderJake, shared that they’re taking breaks from Destiny 2.

Gladd said he was stepping away from the Desert Perpetual Epic raid race entirely, and Jake posted a YouTube video titled “Goodbye Trials,” explaining why he’s done with the PvP mode for now. Now, one more name has joined that list, and it might be the biggest one yet.

Destiny 2 Creator Datto Says He’s Done “For a Little While”

Earlier today, after the Desert Perpetual Epic raid race, longtime Destiny 2 content creator Datto took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm that he’s stepping away from the game until the launch of the Star Wars-themed Renegades expansion in December 2025. In a short post, he wrote: “See you at Renegades. Bye for a little while.”

The post came shortly after a public exchange with fellow content creator Gothalion, who joked about the ongoing situation by asking, “How long before Datto Doesn’t Destiny?”

“Don’t worry, the community will push me out well before the game does. Pretty soon. Tired of this,” Datto wrote, in a reply to Gothalion’s post, expressing a growing frustration that seems to extend beyond the game itself and into the community surrounding it.

Datto’s frustration didn’t come out of nowhere. During the Epic raid race stream, Datto shut down his YouTube chat entirely due to constant toxicity and made it clear it’s never coming back.

“If you’re watching on YouTube, appreciate you watching,” he said. “I will never unblock YouTube chat for the rest of my life. Never again. Sorry. Gave you another chance. None of you are happy. At least any of you who talk in the chat, which is unfortunately all I see. Some of y’all’s personality is ‘I hate Destiny 2.’”

Several viewers have since shared similar observations, saying the negativity during his stream was overwhelming and ongoing.

The toxicity isn’t happening in a vacuum. Destiny 2 is in a rough spot. Many players feel that Edge of Fate introduced systems that just aren’t clicking. The Portal system, loot changes, and various bugs have led to a lot of confusion and complaints. Add to that the lack of any official talk about Destiny 3, something fans have been asking about for years, and it’s not hard to see why morale is low.

It’s not that everything is bad. Bungie has made some promising changes to the rewards structure since the Edge of Fate launch. In fact, the Desert Perpetual Epic raid itself has been surprisingly praised, especially the final encounter, which was brand-new and seen as a highlight.

But even that couldn’t move the needle. According to SteamDB, the raid day had the lowest Day 1 player peak for raid race in history, with just over 28,000 concurrent players. Players are just tired.
