Steelers QB Skylar Thompson is reportedly jumped, robbed in Ireland

DUBLIN, Ireland — Pittsburgh Steelers third-string quarterback Skylar Thompson was jumped and robbed in Dublin, Ireland, on Friday night,  NFL Network reported.

Thompson, who is on injured reserve, suffered minor injuries in the incident but is OK and with the team, according to Sunday’s report. He was on the field in street clothes ahead of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings at Croke Park, which Pittsburgh won 24-21.

Skylar Thompson, who was reportedly the victim of a robbery on Friday, is on the sideline during warmups.

The Steelers arrived in Ireland on Friday morning and held a light workout from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. local time. Players had a limited amount of time to explore the city after practice.

“We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin,” Steelers spokesperson Burt Lauten said before the game. “We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident.”

The NFLPA issued a statement later Sunday, saying: “We are aware of the incident involving Skylar Thompson in Ireland and are relieved to know he is okay. The NFLPA is actively gathering more information and working to understand the full circumstances surrounding what took place. As always, our priority is the health and safety of our player members — especially as we continue to work on player protections and well-being while playing international games — and we will continue to support Skylar in any way he needs.”

Thompson, 28, is in his fourth NFL season and first in Pittsburgh. He was placed on IR on Sept. 10 after suffering a hamstring injury. The seventh-round 2022 pick was drafted by the Miami Dolphins and has played in 10 regular-season games and started a postseason game.

Steelers-Vikings was the first NFL regular-season game to be played in Ireland. It’s the second of seven international games this season.
