The NFL’s first-ever regular season game in Dublin is off to an exciting start. The Steelers took a 14-6 lead at intermission on the strength of an 80-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers to DK Metcalf.
Pittsburgh threatened to turn this game into a runaway, but a blocked field goal by Minnesota defensive back Isaiah Rodgers prevented the Steelers from making it a three possession game late in the first half. The Vikings parlayed the blocked kick into a short field goal of their own just before halftime.
After punting on their opening drive, the Steelers scored touchdowns on their next two drives. Pittsburgh’s second touchdown was the big catch-and-run by Metcalf, who caught four passes for 122 yards in the first half. The Steelers’ first score was courtesy of Kenneth Gainwell, who is starting in place of Jaylen Warren, who is dealing with a knee injury.
Both Rodgers and Vikings quarterback Carson Wentz completed their first 11 passes. But Wentz’s 12th pass was picked off by safety DeShon Elliott, Pittsburgh’s sixth forced turnover in the past six quarters. The Steelers weren’t able to capitalize on the pick, however, after Jalen Redmond’s sack of Rodgers helped set up the Vikings’ blocked field goal.
